ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I will take a critical stance in explaining why the combination of MCA with IPA is a useful approach in studying the nature of translanguaging in classroom settings. I will also illustrate how MCA and IPA can be applied in a real research project. I will present a case study that is conducted by myself in order to help readers to create and analyse their own fieldwork data. I will first report a research study and explain the practical, epistemological, and theoretical decisions that I had to take when planning and conducting my research study, key dilemmas that I faced, and the methodological issues that I encountered. Towards the end of the chapter, I will also explain the reflexivity and positionality of myself as the researcher and how it shapes my interpretation of the ethnographic data.
