ABSTRACT

Mixing a game is a long and sometimes sinuous journey, especially when dealing with gargantuan games and working with large teams over long development cycles. Having an overview of some of the mental processes the mixing person can go through during a game mix, and trying to understand some unconscious phenomena that can impact these, can be crucial to sustaining consistent quality mixing work. This chapter covers how to focus better on what’s relevant to your mixing practice. It includes some of the spiritual aspects of game mixing, so that you can be aware of the different factors that can possibly inhibit your craft. The chapter includes topics and guidance for setting routines, setting goals, enhancing concentration, reaching a flow-state, taking a step backwards to move forward creatively, building self-confidence, etc.
