ABSTRACT

Partners in a neurodiverse relationship who are each deemed stable enough to enter couple therapy within a private practice setting deserve comprehensive treatment. Neurodiverse couples typically have similar goals as neurotypical couples, yet are also likely to have specialized concerns worthy of attention. Effective case conceptualization, treatment planning, and intervention validates and supports these needs. Brain-Informed Couple Therapy (BINCT) is a therapy modality created to address the key areas in which neurodiverse couples usually need the most attention: Executive functioning, sensory processing, regulating emotions, physiological awareness, communication, and conflict resolution. This chapter outlines a proposed protocol for BINCT inclusive of its four stages and their associated interventions.
