ABSTRACT

The principal of Broadwood Kindergarten (BK) and a BK parent share their stories of partnership. Their narratives underscore the importance of sharing power through dialogue, honesty and working together to meet the needs of the children. The central role of communication in the family–school partnership is detailed, and the importance of a shared culture of partnership and how this is set by the principal, is highlighted. Additionally, these stories address cultural differences and tensions when considering the way some parents view the role of the school.
