ABSTRACT

Creating Family–School Partnerships: From ‘Talking To’ towards ‘Learning With’ has called for a new paradigm to establish and live a family–school partnership; one that is reflective of our times, and one in which democratisation and decentralisation, coupled with the impact of the global pandemic, have forever changed the way we see the world. The ‘Pathways to Partnership’ model was developed in order to outline two approaches to family–school partnership, either school or a student centred. The concept of who constitutes a family member needs to be expanded so that all who are involved in the care and education of the children they care for may be considered a valid part of the family–school partnership. While there are barriers to partnership with the family, it is an aspirational goal for all schools to pursue.
