ABSTRACT

Communication is the second key attribute of the Pathways to Partnership model. The relationship between the family–school partnership and family–school communication is directly proportional and high. In a Pathway 1 school, dialogue is a norm, built upon a culture of listening. Communication is two-way and supports the development of shared goals between the family and the school. In a Pathway 2 school, communication is often information, with no opportunity for response. Parents are not viewed as partners in the education of students. Electronic communication is now a feature of contemporary schools and this has added a layer of complexity to an already complex concept.
