ABSTRACT

Developmental characteristics for infants, babies, and toddlers from birth to two years of age are presented in Chapter 3. Using information about early childhood milestones in social emotional, cognitive, and language development in context with advanced behaviors observed in young children, discussion is provided about mapping onto milestone development to select appropriate strategies, toys, and learning activities for advanced young children. The use of music and asynchronous development is also discussed in context with advanced young children. Two case studies of very young children are presented, analyzed for behavioral needs, and discussed. Questions follow for early childhood educators to consider and discuss for local application. Toys and activities appropriate for birth to two years of age are provided.
