ABSTRACT

Chapter 4 details characteristics of preschool children ages three to five and physical, cognitive, and social emotional developmental skills and characteristics at this age are described. Three case studies highlighting children from a range of diverse backgrounds with varying needs are presented. Each case study has a discussion that reinforces specific skills, and description of activities that may benefit each child. Adults in both home and school environments may find the discussion helpful in using the case studies to relate to characteristics or scenarios that are familiar. A set of discussion questions provides the reader with an opportunity to delve deeper into the cases and create additional strategies and activities to foster social and emotional growth among children in this age group.
