ABSTRACT

This chapter is about navigating your environment once we have made your move and transitioned to a new role, organisation, or profession – be this in an employed or self-employed capacity. It looks at the importance of getting to know the full picture around the working culture, the existing team, and any history or politics we need to be aware of. The chapter goes on to discuss the value of making friends with the legacy of your predecessor if we are truly to get to grips with the role we have come into and how things have worked up to our arrival. It then finishes by looking at how to establish credibility and develop an appropriate working style according to the organisation and project type we are working on/with – and of course, looking at the team we are working with.
