ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on communication skills. More specifically, communicating with purpose. It is built on the principle that if you communicate well in your new role, you can position yourself as someone with a future. It acknowledges that your good work gets you noticed, but emphasises that how you relate to and communicate with all the different people with whom you interact is just as if not more important. This chapter demonstrates how good communication is good self-advertisement and offers practical tips and methods for improving your communication skills. It looks specifically at communicating effectively, receiving feedback and dealing with unacceptable behaviour, and how to approach difficult conversations.
