ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at the important topic of gaining management skills – a very important topic for those wishing to move upwards in roles that require people or team management. The chapter acknowledges that it can sometimes be difficult to get the experience needed to make your next move and so look at practical ways to do this. It then discusses how to be a good manager by covering discussion points on the importance of showing empathy, how to adopt a good management style, the art of delegation, how to inspire your team, when to assert authority, and, perhaps most important of all, how to use your managerial authority to serve and support your team.
