ABSTRACT

In the author's very first year at TACT, we had a student come into their “Career Tracks” program to get ready for a career. His parents told us he really loved computer science, and that's what they wanted him to do. Just about every 45 minutes in our program, he had a seizure and tried to get out of class. It clearly was not working. Positive parental expectations can be a powerful motivator for children. When parents believe in their child's abilities and have high expectations for their academic and career success, children are more likely to strive for excellence and to achieve their goals. Additionally, it's important for parents to communicate their expectations clearly and to provide support and guidance to help their child achieve their goals. Furthermore, parental expectations also include how they view education and career paths.
