ABSTRACT
This chapter draws together the key messages of the book and discusses what they reveal about using research well, what they suggest for future improvement efforts and what they highlight as future research needs. It argues that the book:
opens up the issue of quality use of research as an unfolding picture (where different aspects are revealed by successive chapters), a detailed picture (where specific features are illuminated in detail in different chapters) and a connected picture (where links between aspects are revealed across the chapters);
provides resources for future improvement in terms of productive uses (examples of quality use ideas being used in practice that could be emulated), productive spaces (factors that are important for fostering quality use that could be nurtured) and productive paradoxes (contradictions that uncover attributes of quality use that could be considered); and
highlights possibilities for future research in terms of further work on quality use as a capacity, a culture, a practice and a system, and new work on quality use as a journey, quality use as a measure, and quality use across different contexts and sectors.
