ABSTRACT

In this chapter we see the concept of transference declined according to the transactional analytic model. We then dwell on transference dreams, that is, those dreams in which we witness the appearance of the figure of the therapist, or a symbolic surrogate of the therapist. As much as, as Fosshage argues, all dreams convey a transference message when they are brought into therapy, the analysis of transference dreams specifically reveals to us deep and sometimes unconscious aspects of the therapeutic relationship as well as of the patient's script (Berne; Bromberg), bringing our attention to new emotions experienced by the patient toward the therapist or to a moment of broken syntonization not felt at a conscious level.
