ABSTRACT

It is important to state from the outset, that therapy-haters and therapy-lovers represent extreme ends of the continuum reflecting the community’s wide-ranging views about therapy. In keeping with the key definition of bullshit, the therapy-hater expects that the bullshitting therapist will attempt to obfuscate the true nature of the therapeutic enterprise, including their intentions, beliefs, and thoughts about the client. Therapeutic engagement is dependent on specific clients, practitioners, and contexts. However, one general theme is that therapy-haters do not afford workers the luxury of time. Therapy-lovers on the other hand will allow time for the working relationship to develop and will typically help the worker move closer and closer towards what they want. It is enough to emphasise that No Bullshit Therapy is used differently and at different developmental stages of therapy for clients at each end of the therapy loving and hating continuum.
