ABSTRACT

The reader may look forward to this chapter because it provides a verbatim transcript of the first 12 minutes of an initial No Bullshit Therapy (NBT) session, along with commentary describing the intentions behind the therapist’s approach. The session is with Sarah, a 35-year-old therapy-hater, who has been pressured to attend counselling by doctors at a psychiatric hospital from which she has been recently discharged, as well as by her mum Louise and sister Mary.

The chapter finishes with descriptions of an ideal No Bullshit Therapist, to provide the reader with an aspirational goal. An interview with Ken Wolfe, who went from therapy-hater to accomplished NBT practitioner, working with fellow prison-inmates, is particularly illustrative and powerful.
