ABSTRACT

This chapter provides various ways in which parents can support their child both in and outside of school. It raises awareness of the importance of spending quality time with the child, talking to the child about their selective mutism (SM), and making an action plan. The woman cuts a piece of paper, the man glues a flower cutout onto a piece of paper, and the young girl writes on another piece of paper. Additionally, parents can prepare the child with a daily routine in advance to lower anxiety. Parents can use the slide-in/slide-out strategy to introduce new people through playful games with their child in the classroom corner. Talking about friends, Amy began to tell Tom whom she wanted to invite: girls in the Girl Scouts, friends from her dance club, and classmates. At night, Amy eagerly reported on the day's tasks, put a sticker or drew a star on her calendar, and then calculated the points.
