ABSTRACT
This chapter presents a final reflection about the role of the Bank of Lisbon as a private lending institution at the service of the liberal state under construction. It also offers a synthetic argument claiming the relevance of the history of the Bank of Lisbon as a case study in a broader spectrum of essays on the history of banking institutions and practices on a global scale.
