ABSTRACT

Chapter 8 covers sexual behavior and dynamics. It includes early patterns and global practices to current social interaction aspects, such as communication and reactions to rejection. Couples’ decision-making, the link between sexual and relationship satisfaction, and diverse nonmonogamous pathways are explored, along with same-sex relationships. Theoretical perspectives encompass sexual communication, biological essentialism, and the biobehavioral model. Research highlights include American sexual behaviors and the role of nonverbal cues and opening lines in initiating relationships. Sexual relations tend to develop gradually and exclusivity is common. Findings demonstrate that the current generation shows broader acceptance of sexual behaviors. Nonmonogamous relationships are explored, along with asexuality and gender-specific hookup dynamics. Commitment and intimacy correlate with sexual satisfaction.
