ABSTRACT

Transparency means openness, translucency and clarity. It means that one can see through something. That something shines through. In situations and moments that are characterized by a high degree of transparency the risk of mindful avoidance is considerably less, and the chance of mindful action considerably greater. Transparent moments are often less complex and less unpredictable and instead simpler and easier to control. They involve relationships that are honest and straightforward. Being transparent is closely related to being authentic. The two are mutually connected: it is hard to be one without being the other. Transparency is inextricably linked with truth. As with everything else, the context determines what degree of transparency is helpful. Mindful alertness is an exhaustive state characterized by constant readiness and alertness in relation to those stakeholders who hold particular authority or formal power.
