ABSTRACT

Trust is defined as the phenomenon of one person believing that another person will be credible and reliable. Trust is contextual and requires trust in both the situation and the relationship. Brene Brown is one of the scholars who have examined in depth the concepts of vulnerability and courage and their mutual connectedness. She defines vulnerability as uncertainty, risk and emotional exposure. Her research and work thoroughly disprove the equal sign that people often place between vulnerability and weakness. It is not difficult to see how cultures of anxiety and the fear of unmasking can undermine the three T's: Truth, Transparency and Trust. Brene Brown's research and the author's own are closely aligned in this regard. As in the 3T model, there is a ‘chicken and egg' issue in the process of generating trust.
