ABSTRACT

Most people who work with leadership and organizational development want their work to make a difference. They want to see the intense efforts unfolded in many development programmes to have a real influence on and consequences for the way in which leaders and followers practise leadership and followership on a daily basis. All organizations face many strategic business challenges. Some of these challenges represent burning platforms and need to be handled here-and-now. Others are of a more long-term character. Each of these challenges contains a potent opportunity for leadership and organizational development. When one establishes a framework that introduces an important task 1, the challenge of continuing to deal with task 2 is automatically also introduced, and the practice can begin. In working with double awareness it is essential to strike the right balance between addressing task 2 in the reflective space and addressing it ‘in the middle of it all'.
