ABSTRACT

Many management books underscore the need to attend to group processes since a poor process will affect the group's performance. It is thus generally known and widely acknowledged that a working group cannot achieve optimal results without adequate process awareness. However, process awareness is often focused on the rational aspects of the group's life, for example by identifying task-related roles and process-related roles. Mindfulness is a philosophy and a belief system that revolves around awareness and focus as well as related practice that emphasizes awareness and the benefits of being present in the moment. Practising mindfulness helps people engage with, stay with and allow themselves to sense everything there is. The capacity for mindful awareness requires the ability to tune into both behavioural and emotional data in the moment, in the middle of it all. Behavioural data is what people see and hear: what they say and what they express through their actions and body language.
