ABSTRACT

The new mindset transcends the either-or thinking and embraces both-and thinking. An internationally active trainer further confirmed this impression when she told me that during an exercise, participants most frequently paired the term "humility" with the word: "liberation." The second most frequent term was "purity", i.e., a kind of self-purification that is taking place via humility. And this is exactly how humility is to be seen in the company: As liberation and purification from an obstructive ego. From an ego that blocks our view of the situation, others and ourselves and drives us towards egocentric automatisms that harm us all. Recall the examples of disgruntled leaders who felt their efforts were undermined by unwilling employees. Most of the time, it has not much to do with unwillingness, but more to do with employees lacking a sense of security and motivation. Once the manager focuses on this, life usually gets easier.
