While other professors kept away from anything that was standard, Prof. Hubbing embraced all that was new and integrated it into his lessons. To distinguish between correct self-assessment and lethargy or laziness, everyone has to honestly analyze themselves. After all, as we have seen, it is no mistake to concentrate on your strengths. Look at how in recent years recognizing and promoting strengths has become increasingly popular in management theory. In professional roles, a willingness to learn is essential: new roles almost always require skills that go beyond those that employees or managers. The researchers identified twelve critical skills, nine verbal and three non-verbal. Missing out on the modern would be an equal fault. I remember a friend at Cambridge who pompously leaned on the mantlepiece in his room and announced: “All literature you ever need to read was written before the First World War”.
