ABSTRACT

This is the introductory chapter to the book. This chapter begins by orienting the reader to the big questions about care, the context of the research and the outline of the book. It walks the reader through the initial concepts of care work as it relates to women and gender issues before turning to how care is taken up within the realm of gender and sexuality. I pose big questions about care such as, what does it mean to care, how do we learn to care, and why is care important in equity work in education? This chapter will also introduce the storying elements that connect the chapters of the book.
