ABSTRACT

While the integration of livelihood considerations across the entire resettlement process is addressed in Chapter 7, this chapter recognises that many resettlement projects apply the livelihood restoration criterion to only this step of resettlement. Accordingly, this chapter focuses on the re-establishment and development of sectoral (economic) livelihood activities (i.e., the means of earning a living), including understanding the typology of potential interventions, general good practice guidance leading to development and evaluation of a strategy for re-establishment and development of livelihood activities, the selection of a development philosophy, and scoping, contracting and execution. The final section also identifies the issues of remediation and legacy resettlement.
