ABSTRACT
This chapter presents a summary of livelihood concepts and definitions followed by a description of livelihood models developed and used in the context of applied agricultural research, development assistance, social impact assessment and resettlement. These systems-based models provide the basis for improved livelihood assessment; the integration of livelihood considerations into the entire resettlement process; the re-establishment and development of sectoral livelihood activities; and livelihood-centred monitoring and evaluation.
