ABSTRACT

This chapter examines recent trends of innovative anthropologists in their work of addressing these social issues, as they forecast new directions for society by promoting online art communities, stopping hate groups, or exploring the current and future effects of telepresence or teleoperated robots, drones, and self-driving autonomous cars. With the growth of social media, AI, big data, data analytics, and other technologically mediated forms of communication and social interaction, the digital is being incorporated into all aspects of daily life. Digital anthropologists also investigate how digital culture plays a widespread social role today, affecting consumer attitudes, market trends, and audience preferences. Anthropological investigations of the digital world are recent and have rapidly expanded over the last few years. The current wave of anthropologists is immersed in digitalization, AI, and the deep learning of neural networks as they explore what it means to be human and how AI influences social relations.
