ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book discusses on anthropological ways of thinking in the form of cultural analysis applied to solving business problems in a range of settings. Academic anthropologists are involved in offering valuable critiques and thoughtful discussions of issues, but they typically do not offer recommendations, solutions, or even interventions to issues. Anthropologists working in or for business note that exploitation of workers is not a structural given. Studies in business anthropology are most often based on multiple short fieldwork events extended over multiple locations and even over time, that bring together partners and insights from different projects, people, and locations. Business anthropologists gain a rich, multi-voiced perspective on a variety of issues, where meanings are often negotiated, refreshed, and collaborative. Businesses are constantly in search of more information, more data, much of it broad but thin.
