ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the parents learn how to use empathy to understand their child and respond to them when they express their feelings. Empathy is a word used by psychologists to describe the ability to put oneself in another person’s shoes. Unlike “sympathy”, in which two people agree, there is no shared feeling in “empathy”, although there is understanding. Listening to a child with empathy will help them to understand and connect their emotions with their thoughts. The main difficulty in using empathy as a tool for brain development is that most parents find it hard to manage and understand their own emotions. Empathy is a very valuable tool for providing the child with security and growing their self-esteem. All emotions are important and valuable. Listening to the child with empathy will help them identify their feelings and improve their emotional intelligence.
