ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author teaches the parents how they can help their child to learn and store some positive rules and behaviour for their development, giving them a few strategies that are both simple and effective. Children develop a considerable part of their intellectual and emotional abilities through observation and imitation. To reinforce means to strengthen a behaviour and, far from being a “conduct-based” distortion of educating a child, it is an entirely natural tendency. There are many ways to reinforce; some are effective, others ineffective and others are even counterproductive. Trick-reinforcements are those treats, rewards or reinforcements that hide another sentiment and that are therefore counterproductive. One of the most important characteristics of parents who are successful in their job as educators is that they use reinforcements to strengthen or motivate positive behaviour.
