ABSTRACT

A common characteristic of people with good emotional intelligence is that they are assertive. An assertive person is able to express both what he or she does not want or like, and also what they do want or like, in a way that is as clear as it is respectful. Assertiveness is a way of communicating with others in order to feel confident in our rights, our opinions and our feelings, and that we can express them to another person in a respectful manner. Without a doubt, an important part of the job of any parent or teacher who wants to help their children feel good about themselves and achieve their goals is to teach them to be assertive. All programmes that are designed to develop assertiveness make clear the importance of the participant making their rights known as individuals.
