ABSTRACT

Self-control is one of the intellectual capacities that falls within what people know as “executive intelligence”. Executive intelligence is the set of skills that allow the person to decide on goals, make plans to achieve them, carry out these plans and evaluate the results. Household rules, rules at the table and schedules for watching television will help their brain understand that they cannot always have everything. It will serve as training for learning how to calm down when they are frustrated. Teaching them to think about the future can be part of the daily life of all children. An important and beautiful part of self-control is knowing when it is good to exercise it and when it is not. Exposing the child to different people, contexts and situations and always explaining what rules they must obey, can help them to understand the different degrees of self-control that they must display at any given moment.
