ABSTRACT

Being a parent is much more than a responsibility. It’s a privilege. Any parent knows that having a child means going from living a carefree life to suddenly having a very, very busy life. In my view, giving all this up only makes sense if it is compensated for in other ways. With children, the greatest compensation is enjoyment. The values, rules, insight, memory and ability to face up to problems are transmitted through language, games, large and small gestures, and all the other details – which are seemingly small – that shape their education. The child perceives the world primarily through emotions, play and affection. In this sense, playing is fundamental in supporting the intellectual and emotional development of the child. Clearly the child can also learn from parents who seldom play, but playing offers many advantages. The child’s brain is designed to learn through play.
