ABSTRACT

This chapter provides detailed instructions for parents to learn how to do the at-home treatment. It begins by focusing on the two touch techniques central to the QST movements – patting and pressing – and clearly describes how to use the hands most effectively for each. The chapter addresses how intention and focus inform when to use each of the two techniques in order to attune and adapt them to their child’s specific sensory issues. The main portion of the chapter provides simple, straightforward, step-by-step instructions and diagrams for the 12 QST movements. Each step includes descriptions of the child’s position, what to do, what to watch for, what the movement is intended to achieve and what the signs of progress are. Finally, links to online instructional videos by Dr. Silva are provided that clearly demonstrate how each step is done.
