ABSTRACT
The SEND Code of Practice 2015 (DfE and DoH 2015) describes the broad area of need of ‘Sensory and/or Physical Needs’ as including those pupils with hearing impairment (HI), visual impairment (VI), multisensory impairment (MSI) or physical disability (PD). This chapter introduces you to explore the aetiology of range of Sensory and/or Physical Needs including congenital glaucoma, retinitis pigmentosa, sensory processing difficulties, Sensory Modulation Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, cerebral palsy and Duchenne muscular dystrophy. It also examines underpinning theory and research evidence in relation to these issues.
