ABSTRACT
This chapter provides the problem statement, research questions and important research gaps that this study addresses. To familiarize the reader with the structure, trend and pattern of the Indian labor market, a detailed analysis of major variables such as occupation, education, activity status, labor force participation and workforce participation has also been presented. It is based on data from the National Sample Survey and Periodic Labour Force Surveys from 1999‒00 to 2018‒19. This chapter's comprehensive discussion of the Indian labor market provides a better grasp of India's current occupational structure and its dynamics. It offers a thorough examination of India's occupational structure and important labor market developments to non-specialist international and domestic readers.
