ABSTRACT
This chapter documents and reviews some of the notable contributions on various themes, including the concept and trends in intergenerational mobility; data and methodological issues that provide a reasonable framework for comprehending measures; and patterns of intergenerational mobility in India and globally. This chapter brings to the fore that despite the significant contributions made by professionals from a variety of disciplines to the improvement of intergenerational mobility research, the field is constantly evolving. The review of intergenerational mobility in reference to India conveys the impression that this field of study is progressing and that scholars are significantly advancing it. However, there appear to be gaps in the conversion of descriptive information into inferences as well as in the coupling of occupational and educational mobility in order to explain intergenerational mobility comprehensively.
