ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the intergenerational impact on occupational attainment, focusing on skills-based education and high-paying occupations. This was accomplished by combining NSS-PLFS data. The logit model was used for this purpose. This chapter investigates the occupational attainment of sons towards the category I occupations and the impact of parental, household and locational characteristics. This chapter's findings imply that occupational attainment in skills-based and well-compensated jobs is restricted to households in which the father is employed in similar occupations. Regarding socio-religious communities, there is also a huge disparity across groups in terms of acquiring well-paid jobs and where relatively higher skill and education is required.
