ABSTRACT

In light of the research presented in this chapter, affirmative action literature is examined. The chapter focuses on a few significant results about the advancement (on the front of mobility) achieved by OBCs, followed by SCs, with the goal of igniting debate over the claim that affirmative action is successful. This chapter's discussion on employment and education provides more support for the necessity of including these two variables together in the research. This chapter illustrates how we would never be able to properly grasp the relative progress of the STs, SCs and OBCs if education and occupation were analyzed separately. Additionally, it demonstrates how the persistence of educational backwardness can be attributed to a variety of factors, including a lack of positive role models, a depressing environment, and disengagement from normal public life. The current discussion also emphasizes future researchers; ability to do micro-level studies on the effects of affirmative action on occupational and educational attainment.
