ABSTRACT

The concept of sustainable fashion will be defined within this chapter by giving examples from current issues. Fashion's scale problem, the concept and the problems of recycling, and definitions of eco-efficiency, eco-effectiveness, cradle-to-cradle approach, and circularity will be discussed. The chapter considers sustainable fashion as the memory of fashion. As one of the sustainable design methods, upcycling has its creation processes by being experimental, rethinking, cherishing, and honoring past lives and memories. Nevertheless, it is also an approach for industrial manufacturing because it creates opportunities for a circular economy and eco-effectiveness in terms of eliminating waste and discards.
