ABSTRACT

The notion of dressing may be perceived as democratic; however, the realm of fashion itself has largely deviated from this democratic ideal. The prevailing fashion paradigm, positioned at the center of consumer culture, is often regarded as predetermined, manipulative, and enclosed. Nonetheless, emerging explorations advocate for a more inclusive and participatory fashion movement that embraces democratic principles and egalitarian values. These endeavors strive to advance fashion from the periphery, challenging the status quo. By embracing such alternative approaches, individuals are offered the opportunity to distance themselves from the anxiety of suppression and exclusion, fostering a sense of joy and communal engagement. As a result of the research and practices conveyed throughout this book, the features of a lively fashion sense and alive fashion from the periphery will be discussed.
