ABSTRACT

This chapter guides through the steps and procedures to actually put the corpus to use and to report on your research findings. It also provides some guiding principles for how to go about answering your research question using a register analysis framework and corpus methods. Then, it describes the different parts of a research study and provides some guidelines for writing up and presenting your research project as well as providing some information on how a corpus project can be assessed. The chapter covers the steps in completing your project. In order to illustrate some of the concepts in doing a situational and linguistic analysis along with a functional interpretation, It refers to a small corpus of English as Second-Language writers who were asked to produce problem–solution paragraphs in two different conditions. Finally, this chapter provides a sample rubric that can guide as well as give an idea on how a project can be assessed.
