ABSTRACT
This chapter begins with a literature review explaining the general concept of civil-military relations. It then examines research that specifically explores the civil-military relations in the Middle East and North Africa. Later, this part explains civil-military relations during times of protest. The chapter ends with an exploration of the literature on civil-military relations during the Arab uprisings. In sum, the literature review chapter begins with a macro-level analysis of the literature regarding civil-military relations, then takes a continuously more specific view of the topic until arriving at the area of study, civil-military relations during the Arab uprisings.
