ABSTRACT

The coach at Yale, Rudolph Meredith, chose to cooperate with the FBI and further tipped off about Rick Singer – the man who orchestrated the scam that covered large parts of the scandal. Singer himself seized the opportunity to be early in the spotlight and collaborate by gathering evidence against the families and universities he had previously helped. The college scandal was mainly about rich parents who bought college admissions for their children at prestigious universities in the United States, with payments hidden as donations. Test results and application forms were manipulated, and holes in the admissions systems were exploited to get the children admitted. As several of the cases occurred at the State University of California, an investigation was initiated into admission routines and processes, and whether those procedures could lead to exploitation for illegal acts. The schools investigators selected were four of the university campuses: UC Berkley, UC Los Angeles, UC San Diego, and UC Santa Barbara.
