ABSTRACT
The mayor in the municipality of Ørland in the middle of Norway was in 2020 accused of violating the Norwegian working environment act. Local media reported that a midwife had blown the whistle on the mayor. Hilde Kristin Sandvik was the accuser, while Tom Myrvold was the accused. Sandvik was a midwife in the municipality of Ørland, while Myrvold was the mayor. Sandvik and Myrvold had relationships at several levels: personal, political, and professional. The personal relationship was a love affair that lasted for some months following a veteran championship in handball for both women and men. The political relationship was a membership in the same conservative party, where they both had positions in the municipal council at Ørland. The professional relationship was his role as mayor and her role as employed midwife in the municipality. In 2022, Tom Myrvold had to resign from the position of mayor in the municipality of Ørland. The reason was plagiarism, where he had taken text from other persons into his own articles without proper citations.
