ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the development of the body of knowledge regarding intervention with children exposed to domestic violence. The goal is to learn about the role of the exposure-to-violence research field and the role of insights from clinical practice in building this body of knowledge surrounding intervention. A critical review of programs written in the field of children's exposure to domestic violence indicates a gap that has intensified over the years—between research findings on the chosen programs’ effectiveness and the continued adherence to program components that were not proven to be effective. The call by the researchers themselves, as well as by clinicians, to continue to study the phenomenon, to examine new directions for assistance, and for solving the problem has not been answered. Following on from this, the chapter attempts to delve deeply, analyze, and understand the essence of this gap.
