ABSTRACT
The Introduction provides an outline of the book and articulates its main argument that Freud’s theory of psychoanalysis is the best way to determine what differentiates humans from other animals and computers. In looking at his theories of consciousness, free will, emotion, repression, and reason, I show how his work articulates the human break with nature, evolution, and material reality.
