ABSTRACT
By examining Sam Harris’ book The Moral Landscape, this chapter articulates the different ways neuroscience and evolutionary psychology block our ability to understand what makes us human. In trying to establish a science of morality, Harris ends up producing a repression of psychoanalysis and the establishment of a totalizing form of scientism. There are also profound political implications to this replacement of psychoanalysis with biological determinism.
